Nashville Business Journal: Local record shop expands to Nashville Yards after decade in business
Another Williamson County business is expanding to Nashville Yards, joining Culaccino Italian Restaurant + Bar and Leiper’s Fork Distillery.
Luna Record Shop, founded by sisters and native Nashvillians Brenna Gentry and Calvert Gentry McMahan in 2015, will open a second location near The Pinnacle box office at 930 Exchange Ln., according to a permit.
The Nashville Yards location will be twice the size of its original location at 2,300 square feet, allowing for increased inventory, more events and in-store experiences, Luna Record Shop told the Business Journal. They plan to open by the end of 2026.
Brenna Gentry and her son Harrison Gentry will operate the Nashville Yards location, with the latter serving as general manager.
“We’re also really excited to join some of our favorite Nashville record shops and continue that loop around the city for people who love spending the day visiting local stores, digging through records and experiencing what makes each shop unique,” Luna Record Shop told the Business Journal in an emailed statement.
Nashville-based Harvest Construction is handling build out, to cost $226,000, according to a permit.
Luna Record Shop opened inside The Factory at Franklin, 230 Franklin Rd. #12D, in November 2015. The shop carries new and used vinyls across genres — from punk to pop to country — new and used CDs, cassettes and vintage posters.
Luna Record Shop also purchases gently used vinyl, offering store credit or cash in return, and buys vintage audio gear like turntables, receivers, cassette decks and stereos.
“Luna Record Shop is an incredible local success story and their new retail storefront, right around the corner from the box office at The Pinnacle, builds upon the success and popularity of their Franklin store with a new location right in the heart of downtown at Nashville Yards.” Charles Robert Bone, Managing Director and Partner at Southwest Value Partners, told the Business Journal in a statement.
Nashville Yards, a $1 billion development by Southwest Value Partners, has drawn several music industry tenants on the office side as well, like AEG Presents, Creative Artists Agency, L-Acoustics and Messina Touring.
On the retail front, the development is home to longtime Nashville names like Christie Cookie Co. as well as massive out of town restaurants like Ocean Prime, Earls and Prime + Proper.
