Founded in Brazil in 1979, Fogo de Chão is bringing its gaucho-style dining experience — endless skewers of fire-grilled meat and all — to downtown Nashville.

Fogo de Chão, the internationally known Brazilian steakhouse, announced it will open its first Tennessee location on Sept. 22 at Nashville Yards, the 19-acre mixed-use development in downtown Nashville.

The restaurant’s 8,550-square-foot space will anchor the project with a high-energy dining experience, including endless fire-grilled meat.

This marks the first Brazilian steakhouse to return to downtown since Rodizio Grill on Second Avenue closed after the 2020 Christmas Day bombing. Texas de Brazil, which once operated on 25th Avenue N., has also since closed.

Founded in Brazil in 1979, Fogo de Chão has grown to more than 70 locations worldwide.

What are Brazilian steakhouses?

Brazilian steakhouses, or churrascarias, function like roving buffets, where “gaucho” chefs (Portuguese for “cowboys”) hand-carve flame-grilled meats tableside.

While famous for serving unlimited skewers of beef, pork, lamb and chicken, Brazilian steakhouses in the model of Fogo de Chão also offer extensive salad bars, traditional Brazilian side dishes and vegetarian options.

Fogo de Chão in Nashville: What to expect?

The Nashville Yards restaurant will feature plenty of options for both on-site diners and home cooks.

  • Onsite butcher shop for guests to purchase prime meats to cook at home.
  • Live-fire churrasco grill at the center of the dining room.
  • Signature cuts such as wood-fired top sirloin, spicy sausages, bone-in lamb and pork chops.
  • Upscale offerings like a 32-ounce tomahawk ribeye, dry-aged for at least 42 days.
  • South American wine program highlighting bold, meat-friendly bottles.
  • Bar and lounge menu with small plates, casual entrées including burgers and tacos, and specialty cocktails.

“We are eager to enter the Tennessee market and expand our southeast footprint with our first restaurant at Nashville Yards,” said Fogo de Chão CEO Barry McGowan. “As a prime destination for visitors from around the world, our restaurant will serve as a memorable addition to the lively experiences Nashville has to offer.”
