Pinnacle Financial Partners has a new space to test banking innovations and it’s beneath the offices of the largest tech company on Earth.

Pinnacle’s Nashville Innovation Center opened last month inside Amazon Tower 1 at the Nashville Yards development, office leader Kelly Baucom told the Business Journal.

The center marks Pinnacle’s first presence in the Nashville Yards development, which will eventually house Pinnacle’s headquarters and a full-service Pinnacle branch in the tower across the street. Those are both set to open in 2025.

The 1,134-square-foot Innovation Center is Pinnacle’s 36th Middle Tennessee branch and features two interactive teller machines, which can handle most transactions, such as deposits and cashing checks, without the help of a banker. The machines also have touch screens that provide video access to live Pinnacle bankers, which are based in Franklin, during business hours. The center is the first Pinnacle branch to use the interactive teller machines.

The new branch also features a 28-by-8-foot video wall and three meeting spaces, one of which allows for Zoom video conferencing.

The office will be staffed by Baucom and financial specialist Keleigh Carnes.

Pinnacle (Nasdaq: PNFP) is Middle Tennessee’s largest bank, according to Nashville Business Journal research, with $16.69 billion in local deposits.

Amazon’s downtown Nashville hub will house 5,000 Amazon employees, which “clearly played a part” in where Pinnacle chose to locate its Innovation Center, Pinnacle Communications Manager Joe Bass said. Many of the center’s services target people who are comfortable using technology to bank, such as tech-savvy Amazon workers.
